WELCOME TO OUR FAMILY'S MILITARY HISTORY

This is going to be the Military History of my Family from the Crusades to the present. I have found such a rich Family Military History in many wars I feel the entire Family should know about it.

I have also discovered a lot of History that tells me, "I was there." United States History alone tells me who in my Family joined up when needed and in one case I have a published History of  where my Grandfather Nunn went and where he fought in the Civil War!

As I have read about the Crusades I find many members throughout said history. I have started reading so I can connect some dots that have no information available from this end, so I decided to go back as far as I can and come in the "back door" so to speak!

If you have history on anyone within these pages and would like it to be included please do feel free to send it on to me.

For instance I was on both sides of at least two wars that I know of! I had Uncles and Cousins still living in the South during that terrible conflict. My Nunns had not yet moved to America. They were still in England at the time of the Revolutionary War.

I know one of my cousins, Teresa Parker and her husband were at Pearl Harbor on that "Day of Infamy!"

There is so much going through my mind right now that I will eventually place here for all to read.

First Crusade 1096

Raymond of St Giles, Count of Toulouse, Marquee of Provence the first knight called by Pope Urban II. Took his family, wife Princess Elvira of Spain and their son Alfonse Jordain who was baptized in the Jordan River when they got to Jerusalem.

Revolutionary War

This is some of the information I have gleaned from the DAR Lineage Books on my "Revolutionary War Ancestors."

First of all my third Great-Grandfather Elijah Jones, Jr, was Dispatch Rider for General Washington
His Father-in-Law Simeon Raymond, was a Captain in the Kings Army! He was a Tory! That is until the War broke out. He then joined the rebels after resigning his Captains Commission, which so in sensed the Tories that they burned him out!

Another cousin was Colonel John Hathorn, of the Florida and Warwick regiment of Orange County militia and turned out at the Minisink Alarm.

Another of my Cousins was Hon. Henry Wisner, who voted for the Declaration of Independence and his name is on the original draft, but before the bill was engrossed for signing he was called to a session of the Provincial Congress, to which he had been elected.

WAR OF 1812

My Great-Great Grandfather Anson Jones joined up at age 16 as an orderly. Youngest son of Elijah.

My G-G Grand Uncle Simeon Raymond Jones was a minister for the Presbyterian Church when the British again decided to invade our Country. He joined up as a Medic to help with the wounded. Oldest son of Elijah.

CIVIL WAR

My Grandfather Robert Nunn, 46th Illinois Infantry, was only sixteen when he joined up. He had only been in this country for eight years when this conflict amongst ourselves broke out. He was just a boy of eight when his older brother Thomas and sister Sarah came to the Colonies in 1853. My Fathers Father.

My Great Grandfather Jacob Carnahan, his three brothers Elijah, Andrew Jackson and Joseph also joined up to fight for their country. My Mothers Grandfather.

My Great Grand Uncle Edmond Dean Jones also joined up to help our country remain united. Brother of my Great Grandmother Jurusha Teresa Jones,  daughter of Anson, Granddaughter of Elijah.

My Grand Uncle John Strickel served with the 45th Illinois Infantry. Brother of Roberts wife Ann.

WORLD WAR I

My Uncle Roy Norberg was a young man who wanted to fight with his Country so he joined up in this War to End All Wars! As we now know even this one was not to be the last! Husband of my Mothers half-sister Ruth Zelda Lockwood Norberg.

WORLD WAR II

On that horrible day, December 7, 1941 my cousin Teresa Parker and her husband Jerry were in Pearl Harbor with the fleet. He was in the navy and that was where he was stationed. Daughter of my Mothers half sister Belva Ann Lockwood Kvach.

One of my half brothers, George Wesley Graves tried to join the army but was turned down. He then joined the Merchant Marines. These men were in more danger then anyone as they were the ones who delivered supplies to our forces where ever they were!

My brother William Edward Nunn joined the Navy and went to War on an Aircraft Carrier

KOREA

My brother James Robert Nunn joined up, even though he had already spent four years as a volunteer. He did not have to go but he wanted to do his part. He was captured and was MIA for 52 days. He was a P O W.

OTHERS

As others in my family came of age they too joined one of the services to protect our great country from its enemies. They did their part and served their country.

Brother Leroy Bruce Nunn served in Panama during the Korean War.

Nephew Robert Thomas Nunn served in Thailand during Desert Storm. His son Brandon joined up before 9/11/01 and after Iraq started. Son and Grandson of William Edward Nunn. First Great-Grandson was born 9/11/01.
